| Deep Purple and Nazareth-The Helsinki Gig (14/08/200818/03/2010) |
This was the previous one, next summer we'll be heading to Turku, we already got the tickets.
Care to know what almost happened to us? In spring a pal of mine had purchased 10 tickets to the Nazareth and Deep Purple concert to be held in Helsinki. Six people had signed up for sure and only half an hour was left before the train was to leave. What this involved was an impressive flurry of phone calls as put together the value of the tickets amounted to almost €600.
Having just managed to get the required number of people together one fine fellow backed out again. So back to square one. We decided to get on to the capital and see whether selling the one ticket would be any easier there. The trip over was rather fun as Tomppa had a go at besieging the lady ticket collector. A pretty noisy bunch we must have been obviously carried away by the prospect. Got acquainted with some ladies from Karjaa into the bargain, even if in Swedish, which I can't do a single word. Nazareth sounded a tad tired but all weariness was effectively swept away once DP stepped into limelight. Ian Paice, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover left of the old guard were complemented by new guys in this line-up Steve Morse and Don Airey but otherwise familiar from Dixie Dregs (Mr Morse) and Jethro Tull (Mr Airey). The gig they threw was spectacular. Pity we had to cut it short as the last train to Turku left some minutes past eleven and the following morning involved regular gainful employment. |
